Wendover Summer Term 1

As we reach the end of another vibrant and rewarding half term at Wendover, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the energy, effort, and enthusiasm that have filled our boarding House over the past several weeks. From exams to celebrations, quiet moments of rest to joyful group activities, the Wendover girls have once again made this House a special place to live and grow together. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate some major sporting triumphs from the Wendover girls: Theodora, Sophia and Martha for making the England Lacrosse training team, Cassandra for coming first in the U25 elementary qualifier at the Pony of the Year Show and coming 5th in the Final, India for coming second in the Youth Sailing Nationals and Pippa and her crew came top U17 boat. Hopefully all this sporting prowess will mean we won’t finish last in Sports Day!
Exam Season
With the arrival of summer comes the inevitable exam season, and the Wendover girls have truly risen to the challenge. The study rooms have been filled with a determined atmosphere, highlighters and flashcards at every turn, as girls across all year groups tackled their assessments with focus and commitment. It’s been incredibly impressive to see everyone supporting each other – whether it’s through quiet encouragement, quiz sessions, or the simple sharing of snacks during late-night revision. Miss Fleming’s excellent language skills have truly been put to the test with all the girls practicing their speaking exams with her. The importance of balance was championed throughout the House, with girls taking time out for walks, weekend activities, creative hobbies and well-earned Eurovision celebrations! This healthy approach to managing stress is something we continue to encourage and are proud to see the girls embracing. Exams are just one part of school life – and Wendover has shown that resilience, self-care, and perspective go a long way.
House Activities
Despite how all-consuming exams can feel, the Wendover spirit never wanes, and House activities have continued to bring joy to our little community. One of the standout highlights was our delightful afternoon tea, and the usual debate of which is better: the Cornish way or the Devonshire way! It was a moment for everyone to pause and reax and reflect on VE Day.
Another highlight had to be puppy yoga! It was the perfect serotonin hit and the best was to de-stress during the exam season.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be summer in Wendover without the much-loved Daws Hill Rounders match. With sun-soaked skies and fierce but friendly competition, the match brought girls together across year groups for evenings of sporty fun, laughter, and some surprisingly powerful batting performances (Hannah A and Thomasina were constant MVPs!)
House Chapel Service
A huge highlight this half term was our House Chapel Service made possible by the hard work and leadership of Kitty and Eden. The theme, reflections, and music all beautifully captured the spirit of our community and what it means to belong to Wendover.
Kitty and Eden took full charge of planning and organising the service – from writing the order of service to choosing readings and hymns. Their dedication was evident throughout, and their efforts ensured the Service was both meaningful and inspiring. We are incredibly grateful to them for their time and thoughtfulness in creating such a special event.
‘Woscars’ Continue
One of Wendover’s most beloved traditions – the weekly “Woscars” – has continued in full force this half term, celebrating the girls who go above and beyond in all areas of House life. Each week, the House gathers with anticipation to see who will be awarded a coveted Woscar in categories including Best Dressed, Kindest Girl, Most Commendations, Head of House Award, Sporting Star, and Best Dorm.
These awards not only recognise individual contributions, but they also remind us all of the many ways to be a positive presence in the House. Whether it’s helping a friend, showing leadership, putting in extra academic effort, or simply bringing joy to others, there are so many ways the Wendover girls shine – and the Woscars give us the chance to celebrate that.
Welcoming Our New UIII Pupils
One of the most exciting moments this half term was welcoming our future Wendoverians – the new UIII pupils who will be joining us in September. The current UIV pupils were fantastic hosts, putting on a warm and thoughtful few hours filled with fun and friendship. It was wonderful to see our current girls showing such kindness, maturity, and enthusiasm as they made the new pupils feel at ease. We are already looking forward to welcoming them properly next term and seeing them flourish in the Wendover community.
Looking Ahead
As we head into the final weeks of the year, there’s still much to look forward to: Dove Day, GlastonAbbey, House Outing and saying a sad goodbye to those leaving us.
To every girl in the House: thank you for making this half term so full of life and love. You continue to make Wendover a very special place to be.
