Wendover Spring Term 1

At Wendover, House Spirit has been at an all-time high. This Half Term, I have wanted the girls to focus on the School value of ‘Mutual Respect’, demonstrating that throughout our interactions and activities in House. As a team, we continue to focus on fostering an environment of sisterhood, and that is what makes our House so special.
One of the highlights of the Half Term has been the continuation of the much-loved Wendover Weekly ‘Woscar’ awards. These light-hearted accolades provide a fantastic way to recognise the achievements, big and small, of our girls, whether it be academic successes, sporting triumphs, or simply acts of kindness and camaraderie. Seeing the excitement each week as nominees are announced and winners celebrated has reinforced the importance of appreciating one another’s contributions and maintaining a supportive and uplifting atmosphere in our house. I have also learnt my lesson in upping my prize game each week!
Our annual House Dinner was another resounding success, and I would like to thank all those that came to celebrate with us! The dinner provided a perfect opportunity to reflect on the year so far, enjoy delicious food, and share in the warmth of the Wendover spirit. A huge “Thank You” to everyone involved in organising this special evening – from Thomas Franks for the food and set up, the girls who performed so beautifully at the end of the night and to Kitty, our Head of House, who delivered such a heartfelt speech. It was the perfect mixture of relaxation and fun!
We also embraced the vibrant and festive spirit of Chinese New Year, marking the occasion with lantern making, the Wendover dragon and Boba tea. It was wonderful to see our community come together in appreciation of different traditions, reinforcing the inclusivity and respect that define Wendover.
February brought with it the much-anticipated Galentine’s Day, and we made sure to celebrate in style! The day was all about friendship, fun, and a little bit of self-care. Cupcake decorating was a huge hit, with some truly artistic (and delicious!) creations emerging from the kitchen. Meanwhile, the hair styling station was a fabulous addition, with many girls taking the opportunity to try out new styles and enjoy a moment of pampering. It was a lovely reminder that celebrating friendship is just as important as any other occasion, and the joy and laughter that filled the House were a testament to the strong bonds that exist between our girls.
Another major focus for the House has been our preparations for the upcoming House Shout competition. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by all the girls in rehearsals have been wonderful to see. A big “Thank You” and “Well Done” to Linda and the rest of LVI for rallying the troops! The House has been filled with the sounds of singing (shouting), harmonising (in parts), and laughter (lots of this!) as we work towards perfecting our performance. Regardless of the final result, the experience of coming together as a team, encouraging one another, and showcasing our collective talent has been what it is all about. We cannot wait to see the hard work pay off on the big day – a Wendover win would be a bonus!
Finally, a huge “Congratulations” to all the girls who took part in the Orchestral Concert at St Mary’s, Marylebone. I was lucky enough to see a sneak preview and it was truly spectacular! The performances of all girls were outstanding, and it was wonderful to see their hard work shine through. Music is such a vital part of Wycombe Abbey life, and seeing so many Wendover girls taking centre stage was a very proud moment.
As we look ahead, Wendover remains a place where respect, encouragement, and teamwork thrive. We are excited for the many opportunities to come and look forward to continuing to support and celebrate each other along the way.
