The summer is here

In the final few weeks of term, Miss Lowther, along with some Form Tutors and House staff enjoyed spending the evening with each Tutor group for a post exam treat. They were memorable evenings, particularly with Day Boarders joining to reflect on the past academic year.

We have enjoyed a lot of time outdoors in the sunshine this half term with a highlight being Saturday night ice cream ‘factory’ with toppings and sauces galore! A chance to fuel up and prepare for the lengthy swing ball session that followed!

The UV have worked extremely hard revising for their GCSE exams so we wish them a well-deserved rest over the summer, we will be thinking about them as results day approaches and wish them good luck forthe day.We are already looking forward to welcoming them back in September as Mons (monitors) with their House leadership responsibilities.

Alongside House roles of responsibility, a special mention must go to those who have been elected as School Prefects for LVI, leading on specific areas of the School. We are very proud of you!

Mia – LVI Prefect

Liza – Head of House

MJ – Lower School Prefect

Amelia – Lower School Prefect

Lara – Upper School Prefect

Hannah – Upper School Prefect

Matilda – Upper School Prefect

Poor weather meant that the younger years didn’t get chance to play in House Tennis ‘Funals’ (finals) but our Senior teams represented. There were some hotly contested matches and lots of orange to be seen across the courts so a great afternoon of summer sport. Well done to the Houses who progressed through to the knockout rounds and thank you to Lynn, Jocelyn and Esme for sorting the teams during House Games.

A special 125 Dove Day was always going to be a key event in the calendar this year, and it certainly lived up to the expectations. House tents allowed families to come together to socialise with one another for lunch, and activities such as a dog show, concert band performance, gymnastics display and dance show entertained guests throughout the day. We were sad that the 125 branded hot air balloon couldn’t be launched due to high winds but there were plenty of other things going on to enjoy as a community.

Sports Day always brings excitement and nerves. The Butler Army was out in force with plenty of orange face paint, banners, balloons and cheers! Well done to Juniors placing second and everyone for all the points they contributed.

This year, for our final House Outing, the House opted for a relaxed evening to end the term so a Chinese takeaway, dodgeball match and film got the vote. Spending time together, enjoying each other’s company and sharing memories was a fitting end to the term!

Recently House Mothers (LIV) were assigned to incoming Junior House pupils so they know who will be in their House ‘family’ when the move up to Butler in September. This is a key moment on the Wycombe Abbey journey so now these relationships can begin to be built. It is customary that House Mothers and Daughters share a dorm for the Autumn term to help the transition, so they have that to look forward to. A key bonding activity was a rounders match in the sunshine vs. Barry House. As ever, House spirit was strong and competition fierce. House Mothers (LIV) and Daughters (UIII) played as a team in the first round whilst House Grandmothers (UIV) played their warm-up game on another pitch with equal vigour. The final match saw House families come together with a dramatic whole House final. A special mention must go to bowler Cicely and excellent catches from Tiffany on 4th post which helped towards a final score of 11 rounders to Barry and 14 to Butler!

We will welcome our new pupils in September but must say farewell to LVI, Miss Holland our Resident Matron, Miss Gardner our AHM and Miss Abuteir our Resident Tutor. Thank you for all you have done for the House and we wish you all the best for your next chapters.
