Summer Term So Far…

There’s something special about the Summer Term in Wycombe Abbey. The sunshine makes the school grounds look more beautiful than ever, and there’s a real sense of energy and joy as we all look forward to the end of term events and the long summer to recharge. Our pupils make the most of the warmer days by spending time outside, whether playing swing ball on the lawn or revising for exams at the picnic tables in the sun.
A lovely surprise awaited our LV pupils when they returned from the Easter holidays: their study had been completely remodelled. Despite already managing to break one of the new chairs, they are loving the fresh, modern feel of the space. The soft pink fabrics pair beautifully with classic Airlie brown, making it both pretty and practical.
We launched into the term with a weekend packed full of fun. Saturday brought the school Funfair, featuring one of our all-time favourites: the petting zoo. Ducklings, lambs, sheep, and tiny rabbits delighted everyone. The festive atmosphere continued with churros and ice cream for dessert and a cheerful Easter egg hunt with sweet rewards for all. The day also included a charity run, and we are incredibly proud of the Airlie girls who took part.
In the evening, Airlie took on Campbell in a lively game of rounders and came away with a well-earned victory, followed by celebratory ice cream. That same afternoon, many of our pupils took part in the Black Artists Concert, a truly special event that showcased the talent, confidence and musical skill of our students.
For our Upper V pupils, this term has been centred around exams. From the start, they have shown maturity, resilience and kindness, supporting one another through revision and exam nerves. We are so proud of the way they are tackling this challenging time and wish them all the very best in their remaining papers.
A highlight of this term is the fact that Junior pupils start to visit their future Senior Houses. The Airlie Upper III pupils joined the Upper IV for a picnic. Daisy, from Upper IV, commented that ‘it was very interesting to learn about the Upper III’s interests, getting to know them and reassuring them that Senior House life is the best life’.
They also met with the Lower IVs for supper, where they got to know their future House Mothers and begin imagining life in their new Houses. Our Lower IV are equally excited to take on their first role of responsibility in the House, as they welcome their House Daughters into Airlie. Iselda, a current Lower IV pupil, has said: ‘I am looking forward to introducing my House Daughter to Airlie and to showing them why Airlie is the best house of them all!’
We cannot wait to welcome our new pupils properly next year; in the meantime, we asked some of our older pupils to give some advice to them:
‘Life tip: don’t put your name on your food, use the one of an older pupil so that no one dares to touch it’
‘Take a shower every day. Your dorm mates will thank you for it’
‘Label all your clothes so that you don’t have the matrons chasing you with unnamed laundry’
Perhaps the most anticipated event of the half term was our annual Eurovision Night. With flags decorating the Drawing Room, score sheets at the ready, a huge spread of snacks, and all the fun and madness of the performances, it was an unforgettable evening. The perfect way to relax and enjoy time together before Long Leave. Huge thanks to our Head of House Sasha, who helped organise the event and got the girls together to bake cupcakes specifically for the occasion!
Looking ahead, there is plenty more to be excited about. Dove Day, Sports Day and of course GlastonAbbey, the annual Wycombe Abbey Music Festival. We look forward to everything the rest of the term has in store!
