Spring Term in Campbell

After a short half term that has felt jam-packed, the Campbell girls are able to look back on time well spent. From late nights at the theatre to a Fifth Form production which felt led by a Campbell cast, we have truly made the most of the last few weeks and are very much looking forward to a rest over Long Leave.

Sia played the title character of Alice in the Fifth Form production of the same name. She reflects on her involvement in the production.

“I have loved taking part in this year’s Fifth Form play of ‘Alice’. The play is a slight twist on the famous ‘Alice in Wonderland’, following the protagonist of Alice as she journeys through her imagination, meeting different characters on her way. The cast and I performed at the end of January and the show was incredible with such an enthusiastic audience on both of the nights that we performed. Attending rehearsals each week has been so much fun and the occasional pizza on a late night was definitely appreciated! This performance featured a revolving stage that was fitted into our theatre which made the show even more exciting than usual, despite us having to alter some staging positions to accommodate for the new stage! I have always found that being in a play creates such strong relationships between different year groups and I am so grateful for the friends and memories that I have made through Drama, especially in this production. I look forward to more drama events this year and a big “Thank You” must go to the Drama Department for making the show such a success. I hope that everyone enjoyed the performance!”

House Staff really enjoyed seeing the excellent production which, alongside Sia as Alice, involved Marta as the mother/ Queen of Hearts, Isla as Joe/ White Rabbit, Evie as the Knave of Hearts and Yihan as the teacher/ a host of other characters. Well done, everyone!

This term we have been pleased to get to know Mrs Liu. She has jumped into the House and has spent the half term getting to know all the Campbell girls.

“My first month in Campbell House as Deputy Housemistress has been both exciting and busy. Stepping into this role, I quickly realised the importance of balancing responsibilities while fostering a positive and supportive environment for both pupils and staff. Fortunately, I am surrounded by a strong and calm team, whose professionalism and dedication make the work enjoyable and rewarding. Their support has been invaluable in helping me settle into my role, and I truly appreciate the collaborative spirit within the House. The pupils in Campbell House have also made a strong impression on me – hardworking, sensible, and always willing to engage positively with their academic studies and House activities. It’s been wonderful to see them take ownership of their responsibilities while also contributing to the welcoming and respectful atmosphere of the House. Each day presents new challenges, but the teamwork and friendship within Campbell make it all the more fulfilling. I am particularly looking forward to our upcoming House Dinner; an opportunity to celebrate and strengthen the sense of community we have built. It has been a fantastic start, and I am eager to see what the rest of the term brings.”

Mr Russell joined us as Resident Tutor in January. He has been invaluable in teaching Campbell how to win at Volleyball in House Games, and running the new House Family competition night each week where points are hotly contested.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my start to life at Wycombe Abbey. The Resident Tutor team, Campbell House, my academic departments, and wider Wycombe Abbey community have given me a warm welcome. I have been immersed in the School environment, and have already amassed a wealth of experience in my academic departments, PE and Psychology. I have already had the opportunity to go on sporting fixtures and assist with social events as well as academic life. My introduction to Campbell House has been wonderful. Campbell have been busy in January, and I have enjoyed helping run activities for the girls. Some of these have included: a Hot Chocolate Making Competition, Just Dance & Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch, Smoothie Making, and the newly introduced weekly House Family Competition! The atmosphere within Campbell has been relaxed, and the girls always enjoy living together. There are a plethora of sports, extras, societies and clubs that Campbell girls attend, making for a varied and dynamic boarding environment that is always a joy to be involved in.”

We wish everyone a lovely, restful Long Leave, and look forward to welcoming everyone to our House dinner after the break.
