Rubens House Blog Summer Term Second Half 2025
27 June 2025 - Rubens

John Steinbeck described June as “the world of leaf and blade and flowers explodes, and every sunset is different.” How true this is for the final half of the Summer Term in Rubens. In the pink palace, we squeeze out every drop of the Summer sun and make lasting memories which our sisterhood come to cherish in their older years. One magic moment for the girls was the annual Rounders match between Pitt and Rubens which saw Rubens as convincing champions. Well done girls!

The end of the Summer Term is one full of goodbyes and congratulations too. We congratulate all of our brilliant Upper V pupils on completing their GCSEs. We can’t wait to see you back in the House as the mighty new LVI cohort. We are also saying a fond farewell to our Australian exchange girls Eira, Allison and Megan. Thank you for being such a brilliant addition to the LV! We hope you have enjoyed your Wycombe Abbey boarding experience and thank you for getting fully involved with our LV play, Cinderella!

The LV play was a triumph. I was very proud of the team work and organisation of the girls during this project. Special praise for Bea who was the House Producer and Miranda who was the House Director; challenging roles which they both executed with great style and confidence.

Finally, it would not be the Summer Term without a bittersweet farewell to the current LVI. We will miss all of our precious piglets hugely. They have all brought so much joy to the House. I will never forget their LV play, an homage to all things pink in the untold story of Barbie. And we will forever be grateful to Lily for sourcing our impressive pig mascot. Maria (Head of House) and Sophia (Deputy Head of House) are stepping down as our leaders and we owe them a huge thank you for the leadership, kindness and commitment they have shown over the year. Each member of the LVI have been impressive role models to their younger sisters and I hope that the girls will come and visit Rubens once they have started their next adventure in their UVI House, Clarence. To our LVI, I say that your time in Rubens has passed but your sisterhood will last. How lucky we are to have people in our lives that makes saying goodbye so bitter sweet.

The end of the Summer Term also marks and end of our LIV’s first Academic Year in the big, pink House! The girls all attended the Dove Award ceremony at the start of the term and awards were handed out to Nell and Arabella for being brilliant team players within the House, demonstrating thoughtfulness and kindness.

At Wycombe Abbey, the Summer Term is dominated by the anticipation for Dove Day. The one day of the year where we stop the timetable and come together as a community to celebrate Dame Frances Dove and her legacy for the girls of Wycombe Abbey. This year, our Rubens tent was bigger and pinker than ever! A huge thank you to all the parents who came with their picnic baskets to support the girls and the day.

This year also saw the return of the raft racing on the lake. The girls created their raft on Friday night and launched them into the lake on Saturday morning. Rubens gave a spirited performance, and we are very proud of Elle (UIII) Lara (UIV) Eliza (LVI) Serena (LVI) Amelie (UV) Alice (UIV) and Tunrayo (LV) for getting involved!

Following our raft race performance, it is fair to say that Rubens are better on land than in the water. This was proven with our fantastic effort at Tug of War where we came a respectable third place! Well done to the Tug of war team Sky (LVI) Tunrayo (LV) Gracie (UIV) Poppy (LV) Mia (LIV) Chloe (LVI) Arabella (LIV) Annelise (UIV).

Glastonabbey is always a highlight in the Wycombe Abbey Summer Term calendar and this year was no exception. We had a fabulous representation of Rubens girls on the pyramid stage! Well done to Bea (LV), Xingyan (UIV), Lua (UIV), Anni (UIV), Zyva (LVI) and Chloe (LVI) – you are all superstars!

Another year draws to a close and we say a fond farewell to our pink posse. I am so proud of Rubens House and everything they have achieved throughout the Academic Year. It will remain the greatest privilege of my life to live and work with the Rubens girls, and I could not be more excited to start it all over again in Autumn 2025.
