Rubens House Blog; Second Half 2023

Ruby the Rubens House dog has some strong feelings about Valentine’s Day this year! And just like that, it’s the second half of the Spring term which was no less busy or successful for our pink sisters. The girls came back from Half term feeling rested and ready for the joys of Spring. The Spring term at Wycombe is very special and perhaps more than any other point in the year, most embodies the possibilities of new beginnings and draws our collective eyes to the skies; willing the blues, yellows and oranges of the Summer Term to start revealing themselves. This half of term began with our annual House photo and the Lower Sixth had a special year group photo to mark the end of their time in their Senior Boarding House, before they all move up to Clarence House for the UVI.

Thursday 2nd March marked World Book Day, and the Rubens UV really got behind their year group theme of Louis Sachar’s novel, Holes:

Rubens LV also got into the spirit of the day with a mix of well-known literary characters such as Mario Kart and some colourful fairies!

This term our House Charity Representative, Elodie (LVI), raised funds for School charities through a bake sale and also organised the House into a charity drive for Great Ormand Street Hospital. Elodie organised for the Rubens girls to donate new toys for the children at the hospital. Over the Easter break, Elodie will deliver the donated toys to this incredible charity. We are really proud of her initiative here and ever so thankful for the generosity of the Rubens House family. Particular thanks to Amélie (UIV) and her big sister Ashleigh (UV) who also donated a fabulous book voucher for the children so that families can treat their children to lovely new books while they recover in Hospital.

The U3 also spent an afternoon with Miss Hoyle this month as they start to look forward to joining their Senior House in September. The girls were delightful and very excited to get to know their new pink sisters. The newest recruits played a photo game with Miss Hoyle, and by far the best photo of the day is documented below. Welcome to the sisterhood, Team Rubens!
