Pitt: Spring Term 2025
14 February 2025 - Pitt
Following the festive holiday and now with the ever-increasing longer daylight hours, the achievements and experiences of the Pitt girls continue to flourish. Many of the girls are involved in early morning lacrosse, leaving House around 7.15am and heading straight to MSDR, all in preparation for the Lacrosse Nationals after Long Leave. The extra practice in stick skills and further strength and conditioning all helps give Wycombe Girls the edge on their competitors.
Our girls are always incredibly fortunate to be afforded some fantastic sporting triumphs, theatrical performances and academic achievements.
Closed Weekend
The first closed weekend of the year was packed with excitement, bringing the House together for some fun activities. One such major highlight was the Silent Disco, which had everyone showing off their best moves in Big School. It was wonderful to see the girls letting loose and enjoying themselves. They enjoyed the chocolate fountain and ice cream too!
On Sunday, the annual Societies Sunday was held; an event that showcases the diverse interests of our pupils. With 31 pupil-led sessions on offer, there was truly something for everyone. From Drama, Art, and Modern Languages to Cookery, Medicine, and even a Taylor Swift Society, the day was a fantastic opportunity to explore new passions and learn from peers. A special “Thank You” to those who ran sessions and helped make the event such a success!
House Cross Country
By its own name, the course is across country within the School grounds with girls participating in the elite or fun races. Participation and resilience are key elements, along with immense House Spirit. Special praise must go to Genevieve for her outstanding win in the Senior Cross Country Race. Her strong preparation beforehand in morning runs before School and further gym sessions naturally helped!
All the girls participating had great fun in the mud, and followed by hot chocolate afterwards upon completion of the their race. It was a great way to blow away the winter cobwebs!

Ski Races
We are immensely proud of Mylah, Elizabeth Anne and Alix, who represented Wycombe Abbey at the British Schoolgirls’ Ski Races in Flaine in January. On the trip, the girls spent time training with expert coaches, before showing off their determination and skill on the slopes. A special congratulations to Alix, who came 1st in the U14 Giant Slalom and 2nd in the U14 Slalom, and Elizabeth Anne who came 3rd in the U16 Slalom! Well done, ladies!

Fifth Form Play
A huge well done to Simran, who took part in the Fifth Form production of ‘Alice’ by Laura Wade. Performing in a School production requires great commitment, creativity, and confidence and we commend Simran on her hard work and dedication. The LV are busy preparing for their House Play competition which takes place later in the year, and we are excited to see what wonderful ideas they have.
Faraday Challenge
A team from Wycombe Abbey took on the exciting task of designing, prototyping, and presenting a creative engineering project as part of the Faraday Challenge. A huge congratulations to Lizzie, Athena, and Louise, who not only represented Pitt and Wycombe Abbey brilliantly, but also emerged victorious! Their hard work, problem-solving skills, and ingenuity earned them a well-deserved win. We wish them the best of luck as they move forward to the regional competition!

House Activities
In House throughout the week and over the weekend, we offer the girls a range of activities to take part in, including Nachos, risotto and, of course, Toastie Tuesdays. The girls love getting involved with the preparation and the cooking, learning new life-long skills and a tasty meal along the way.
Over the weekend, the girls in House will often be baking in the kitchen and this past weekend was no exception. The girls, led by Jocelyne, Allegra, Zi Tong and Mia, created some beautiful Chocolate Brownies. For some girls, this is there chance to learn, try and taste their own creations. It was really lovely to see a cross section of the House fully involved, singing along to music and waiting patiently for their food to bake in the oven. Tasting is obviously the best bit!

House Netball
The first half of this term, has been focused on House Netball during the House Games session. With many girls opting for games, we are fortunate to put out three House teams across all the year groups. The girls all gave it their all and, in spite of poor weather with heavy rain and fairly strong winds, the girls demonstrated their resilience and House Spirit. Particular mention must go to the House Captains of Valentina and Elisabeth who led commendably across the teams and gave lots of support, advice and help.

Looking Ahead
With the second half of term ahead of us, our girls are excitedly preparing for the next opportunities to celebrate and compete. Plans are underway for our House Dinner and House Outing, both of which promise to be fantastic opportunities for Pitt to come together as a House community.
The girls are excitedly preparing for the annual House Singing competition, and the common room is lit up most evenings with some great singing. We look forward to hearing more after half term.
