Pitt Newsletter Summer Term 1

The Summer Term has brought welcome lighter evenings, with competitive games of badminton being played outside Pitt every night. The UV have made a great start to their GCSEs and wish we them every success as they navigate the remaining exam period. The rest of the House have also been studying hard for School Exam Week where they have the opportunity to show how much they have learnt this year.
We felt very lucky to have a visit from Heather’s (School Counsellor) litter of adorable puppies! This provided lots of cuddles for the girls, all whilst helping with the puppies’ socialisation.
The LVI rose to the challenge of their exams and have been rewarded with some pleasing results. They now start to look towards to moving to Clarence next year and the increased independence this will bring – although they will miss Pitt dearly! They had a wonderful Tutor outing with Mr Murphy and Mrs Maddison where they enjoyed a meal at Osaka together.
Closed Weekend
The first weekend of the Summer Term was a huge success! The whole School silent disco on Saturday evening highlighted some impressive moves as girls danced the night away! On Sunday, after Holy Communion, we headed down to Midget Pitch where there was a huge variety of activities on offer. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the inflatables, ‘bucking broncho sheep’ and of course the petting zoo. There was also an Easter Egg Hunt, churros and ice-creams – it felt like our own country fair!
The 12km Charity Run raising money for our School Charity, Build on Books, also took place on Sunday. Build on Books is a small organisation that helps schools and communities in Sierra Leone overcome the devastating effects of poverty. We are so proud of the girls who took part, it was a tricky undertaking with warm weather and the steepness of Daws Hill to tackle!
New UIII Pitt
This term we have also started to welcome our incoming UIIIs into Pitt House. They have joined us in Chapel and Whole School Singing. They have also met with our current Pitt girls up in House for a picnic, followed by games lead by the UIV and for supper with LIV. It’s been lovely to see the older girls making them feel so welcome and excited to join the Pitt Family.
Success for Pitt
We are so proud that Mia (LVI) was announced as one of our Deputy Heads of School for 2026-27. Annabel (LVI) has stepped up as Head of House ,and we are delighted that Jocy (LVI) will be our Deputy Head of House for the Summer Term.
Astrid (LVI) was awarded “Overall Champion of Upper Secondary: Best Essay Category” from i-leaner education centre in Hong Kong – a hugely impressive achievement.
Aura (LIV) became Bucks County Champion in 1500 metres and won gold, with a new PB time of 5:13. She then the following day competed in 800 metres and won Silver.
Spotlight on Mrs Pearce
Mrs Pearce is another one of our Day Matron in Pitt, she is famous for her risotto and loves taking care of people.
What is your favourite thing about Pitt?
Everyone is great, staff, pupils, working in Pitt can be a challenge at times but it’s always fun.
What is your favourite movie?
We have a movie night every week at home and enjoy a diverse range, here’s a few of my favourites:
Thomas Crowne Affair, The Bucket List, The Last Castle, Lucy, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mama Mia, All is Lost, A Few Good Men, The Green Mile ………. I can go on forever !!
What do you like to do outside of school?
I lead a very busy life living on a farm so there’s always something going on. Mostly I enjoy walking and training my two gundogs, I love cooking, gardening, swimming, and watching F1.
I try to do something out of my comfort zone every year – parachuting, hang gliding, zip wiring, sailing, waterskiing etc. I’m currently part way through my Glider Pilots License which is fun.
I also like to read but only at bedtime or whilst on a sun bed on holiday !
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I’m getting my first grandchild in the summer –I can’t wait, it’s very exciting, although not school related!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something (I wanted to be a Vet at 16 but careers told me I wouldn’t be able to achieve it. At 19 I had started my own company and ran it successfully for 35 years – I could have been a vet easily!!)
We hope the girls have a well-deserved break over the Long Leave and we look forward to the remainder of the Summer Term which promises to have lots of fun!
