Pitt House Spring Activities

The girls in Pitt began the term focusing upon further developing the range of activities in House and what it means to be part of a family tree. The family tree forms part of our mentoring system where the girls in LIV have a Housemother who helps to look after and guide them both in the House and in School. They are someone the younger girls can turn to when they need a bit of advice or a helping hand. The girls take great enjoyment from being both a Housemother and House grandmother.  They love seeing their daughters arrive in LIV and building their relationships with their new Housemates. The Autumn Term is always a good opportunity to build these bonds as the girls in each dorm are part of the one family tree.

Family trees remain at the heart of House life throughout the year and the girls are really looking forward to their family tree breakfasts resuming after Long Leave!

Along with the many activities offered in School each weekend, there is always plenty for the girls to do in House. The girls especially love anything related to food. Monday nights are a particular favourite with everyone; be it nachos, toasties or ice cream sundaes. There is always the opportunity for the girls to chat with each other and share their stories from the day. The girls enjoy chatting with each other, making many new friends, and getting to know each other more whether younger or older.

On Tuesday nights, the girls enjoy Book Club with Miss Warden. Whether the discussion is about an article or a favourite book, the girls enjoy the open conversation and, naturally the evening comes with snacks. Girls from all year groups are welcome and it is jointly led by Miss Warden one of the UIV girls. The book choice is diverse and we find it encourages the girls to choose a different book from the house library next time. Alongside book club, Miss Michail enjoys imparting her passion for baking with the girls. The recent pizza swirls were a huge success.

After action-packed Wednesday and Thursday evenings of School sport fixtures and music rehearsals, the girls enjoy taking the time to have a quiet cup of tea and biscuits with Mrs George. It is a lovely relaxed way to end the busy few days and to reinvigorate themselves before Friday’s lessons and the prep that is due.

Fruity Friday has always been a firm favourite; it started in ‘Old Pitt’ where, as a house we would come together on the landing and chat together about anything and everything. This has continued in our new building and still holds a special place in the life of the House. The tropical selection of seasonal fruit provides the opportunity for all the girls to mix together in the main common room or kitchen and enjoy the end of the week relaxation and chill out. The time spent relaxing with friends somehow makes Saturday lessons not seem too bad!

The weekends are always particularly fun; the girls love participating in the School weekend activities as well as their sports fixtures before coming together for a Saturday night movie, sundaes and snacks.

It is always a busy week for the girls in Pitt; with something for everyone to enjoy across the week and never a dull moment.
