Airlie House

Welcome to the Airlie House blog! Here, you will receive updates on our community and House news.

Allegra (LV), Hojung (UV), Jasmine (UIV), Hattie (LVI) & Amalia (LIV).

Like our namesake, Lady Airlie, our Airlie pupils are curious and refuse to stand still. To reflect on the Spring Term so far, I chatted with five of our wonderful pupils to get their thoughts and opinions on how their term has been unfolding. Throughout our conversation, we reminisced about last year’s Spring Term, which we were in lock down for a large portion of the time. Weekend activities, sports fixtures, the house staff investigating muddy shoe marks on the stairs and how Katsu Curry remains supreme as a favourite dinner option were hot topics. However, it was decided that the best way to gain a quick insight into an Airlie pupil’s half term would be a short, sharp, five-word summary:

Hattie, LVI: Rewarding, Zesty, Action-Packed, Sensational, Community.

Hojung, UV: Music, Lively, Hopeful, Concert, Busy.

Allegra, LV: Interesting, Fun, Tutor Breakfasts, Unconventional.

Jasmine, UIV: New Term, Fun, Exciting, Entertaining.

Amalia, LIV: Thrilling, Toastie Night, Tests, Triumphant.

Lunar New Year

This month, we celebrated the 2022 Lunar New Year of the Tiger. The Lunar New Year is the most important day in the Chinese calendar with more than a billion people celebrating it. During our weekly House meeting, we discussed that the Tiger is action-oriented and represents strength and bravery. We discussed how this could translate into our daily lives. To celebrate, Sharen (LVI) and Vivian (LVI) taught Airlie pupils how to make dumplings! We were all very grateful for their guidance and for the delicious food!

House Games

House Games is a wonderful opportunity for Airlie pupils to represent our House in a range of sporting activities. This is a weekly favourite that Dr Tsaknaki and I to go watch and support the pupils. The Spring Term has been another jam-packed House Games calendar. Pupils competed in Hockey, Netball, Handball, Football, Swimming, Cheerleading and Squash. House Netball always provides a fun, competitive environment as pupils from different year groups join together to play against other houses. There were wins, draws and losses; however, all pupils gave their best in what was a very exciting competition. Thank you to our House Games Captain, Georgia (LVI) for all her hard work organising the teams!

Quiz Night

Quiz Nights in Airlie are always a fun event, with a Pizza Night up for grabs for the winning team. Pupils took part with members of their Family Tree. It was a close event  with only a few points making the difference. Well done to Alice (LV), Sasha (UIV), Amalia (LIV) and Linda (UIV) for winning the House Quiz Night!

Toastie Wednesday and Fruity Friday!

Each week, we come together as a community in our House kitchen to make toasties (Wednesdays) and smoothies (Fridays). The House staff are always on hand to help and watch over the pupils’ creations. It is a time to chat about the day, whilst making and eating some delicious treats! Pupil favourites this term have been, Ham and Cheese toasties, and Summer Berries Smoothies, but sharing the day’s adventures or a joke with a friend is always the real highlight of the evening!
