Pitt House Blog Spring 1

It has been a busy and exciting start to the New Year in Pitt, with the girls throwing themselves into House life with enthusiasm. From celebrating our global community, to performing on stage, to competing at County level, there has been much to celebrate this Half Term.

Spotlights

The Spotlights Dance Show took place over the closed weekend at the start of term. Our winning House dance from last term featured in the line-up, and it was a joy to see the girls take their dance out for another spin. We were incredibly proud of all our U4s who appeared in the show, as well as the many Pitt girls who danced beautifully as part of other routines throughout the evening.

Global Celebration Week

We were delighted to celebrate Global Celebration Week, led by Dora and Astrid, who were supported by the whole House to produce a truly fantastic entry for the door banner decoration competition. Their design thoughtfully incorporated the many places around the world that the Pitt girls call home, and it was wonderful to see such collaboration across the House. We were thrilled to be awarded an impressive third place, with the girls enjoying a special treat to mark the achievement.

Cross Country Championship Success

A huge congratulations to Aura on her outstanding success at the Buckinghamshire AA Cross Country Championships, where she finished in the top four and automatically qualified to represent Buckinghamshire at Nationals. Best of luck to her as she prepares for the next stage – and it has been very impressive to see her dorm proudly decorated with her growing collection of race numbers!

Reflections from our newest Pitt girls

L4 Interviews:

This Half Term, our Head and Deputy Head of House sat down with a group of L4 girls to discuss their first term in Pitt. Having now settled into Senior House life, they were keen to share their experiences and we are pleased to say that their reflections were overwhelmingly positive.

Settling into Pitt:

When asked about the transition into Pitt, the girls were unanimous in describing it as an enjoyable and surprisingly calm experience. “Moving into Pitt has actually been really relaxing.” The girls added that living with older girls had made a huge difference, saying, “The friendships with older girls, especially the ones you share a dorm with, are really fun and rewarding.”

Mixed-age dorms:

The topic of mixed-age dorms sparked a lot of discussion. While several admitted that the idea felt intimidating at first, their views quickly shifted once they settled in. “It’s definitely quite daunting at the beginning because it’s such a unique thing, but it turns out to be really helpful.”

The girls spoke about how reassuring it has been to learn from older girls’ experiences. “They give you so much advice, and it helps knowing that they’ve struggled with things like tests before and got through it.”

Favourite memories so far:

When asked about their favourite moments of the term, the answer was immediate and unanimous: Dorm Feasts. “Dorm Feasts are definitely the highlight. We go into town together, buy loads of food, and then just watch a movie as a dorm. It’s such a nice way to finish the term — especially when everything’s been really busy.”

Being tutored by older girls:

The girls also spoke warmly about academic support within Pitt. Nina and Sally, who have been tutored in maths by Annie S and Dora L in Lower Sixth, both described how much these sessions have helped.

Sally highlighted how valuable the sessions with Dora have been, explaining, “Because we can speak Mandarin, she can explain the harder topics in a way that is easier to understand.” Both agreed that being supported by older girls had made maths feel far less intimidating.

Thoughts from Dora, LVI

This is my first year at Wycombe Abbey, and it has been a real pleasure to join Pitt House and become part of the LVI community. From the beginning of term, Pitt has made a strong first impression as a passionate, engaged and united House, where pupils actively take part in a wide range of activities. From Sports Day to Bonfire Night and then House Dance, I have felt proud to be part of the Pitt family and to share its strong House spirit.

As I have learned from other LVIs, taking responsibility for supporting younger girls is an important part of House life. I do this by tutoring younger pupils when they need help with their preps or upcoming exams. The girls I have worked with are all very hardworking, and I hope that my support helps them feel more confident in their academics. Through helping younger girls, I have gained a stronger connection and sense of belonging to the rest of the House.
