Campbell – Summer 1

The Summer Term is one of my favourite things at Wycombe. As the evenings get brighter, and the weather is (mostly!) on our side, it is lovely to see the House emerge into the sun and make the most of the lovely grounds that we have.
At the end of last term, we were thrilled to see Yimika announced as the School’s Sports Captain for 2026/27.
I would say that being Sports Captain of Campbell House over the past year has been my favourite responsibility at Wycombe. Finally having the opportunity to lead my House after four years of representing has been incredibly rewarding, especially as we were able to bring the House Swimming trophy back to Campbell, place second in Netball, and achieve our first Lacrosse podium finish in recent years by coming third. This experience inspired me to apply for School Sports Captain because I loved being able to engage with different year groups through sport and grow in confidence as a leader. It made me realise how much I enjoy encouraging involvement and building enthusiasm around sport within the School community. Thankfully, I was successful, and although I am only at the beginning of my tenure as School Sports Captain, I’m already excited and grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait to see what the year ahead brings and the impact I can make. Campbell’s sporting talent runs deep. Week after week, our athletes show up to training (even when it means braving an early morning alarm) and that commitment shines through when they step up to earn points for Campbell. Early this term, our players impressed at Tennis Funals, where the 1st and 2nd House teams battled through a long afternoon of tough matches and held their ground against formidable competition. We also saw our athletes substantially represented at the Sports Awards dinner, where Elsa, Chelsea, Charlotte, Serena, Sienna, Marta, Yimika, Ella, Verity, and Eletta brought back awards to House following a brilliant evening of sporting excellence.
UVI:
As they near their A levels, our Campbell UVI are also nearing the end of their time at School. Miss Dorme enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating with them at Clarence Leavers. With an exciting range of destinations ahead, including offers from leading UK and US universities, we wish them every success! Once a Campbell girl, always a Campbell girl; it has been a particular privilege to know this group, and I look forward to hearing about their future achievements and adventures.
LVI:
The LVI girls are turning their minds to university applications. During the last week of this half term, they have taken part in a Leadership Summit and Future Ready days, enjoying the opportunity to think about their future pathways and applications.
Ever the helpers, the LVI have continued to make themselves available for study sessions with the younger years and each Wednesday evening there is a wonderfully collaborative feel to the drawing room as the LVI have commandeered the large table for the younger girls to work with them and ask questions.
This term, Zakia and Tracey took part in the robotics competition, and Zakia has reflected on the experience: Being part of the robotics team has been great fun and has taught me valuable skills. It’s taught me how to work confidently with new tools and collaborate as part of a big team. Watching our robot come to life with our hard work has been incredibly rewarding, and this has been recognised with a spot in the final and an Inspire Prize at Regionals, and the design award at Nationals. We were also pleased to be offered a place at the Prime event, with robots from all over the world!
UV:
Our UV pupils are working exceptionally hard as they begin their GCSE exams. We are so proud of their hard work and the measured approach they have taken to revision and know that they will do themselves proud. The younger girls have taken great delight in decorating their Heads of Dorms’ bed areas, including balloons for them to pop after each exam as they count down towards the end of their exam period.
LV:
Keeping in mind our focus for this year, creativity, we have enjoyed seeing the LV putting together their House Play to be performed next half term. Victoria is our House Producer and, alongside Audrey who has written the script, the piece is really coming together.
This term, the LV have been tasked with writing and performing an original play that tells the story of a side character from an existing book, film or play within our houses. Campbell have chosen to explore the world of Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse, focusing on the chaotic sibling duo Raquelle and Ryan.
Our scriptwriter, Audrey, has produced an impressively professional and funny script, and our first rehearsals have already been full of energy as we begin to transfer our story from page to stage. Everyone is thoroughly enjoying the process and contributing their ideas in our rehearsals, creating a real sense of community. It is so lovely to see my year group working together as a team to bring these characters to life, and I’m already excited to see how the final performance comes together in June, when we’ll be sharing our play with the whole school. UIV:
The UIV hosted the UIII Campbell girls, who will be joining us in September. The group got to know each other over an indoor picnic and some games before the UIV walked the girls back to Junior House.
Serena showcased her skills in 300m and shotput at the recent Track and Field event with some impressive results. She and Chloé were joint ‘Campbell Champs’ for their impressive playing during Tennis Funals, where they managed to beat all their opponents as some of the youngest players.
I have been very impressed with the work ethic of the UIV girls this term; as they approach end of year exams, the girls have each spent time with me discussing their strategies to revision and each one has produced, and (mostly!) stuck to, a clear revision plan.
LIV:
Nearing the end of their first year in Campbell, the LIV girls are getting their heads around the idea that they will no longer be the youngest girls in the House. They are eager to take on the new, younger girls, and have chance to show them around and bring them into the Campbell family.
Chelsea and Elsa shone at the recent Track and Field event with some very impressive results in their 300m, hurdles and long jump events.
I was pleased to welcome Aria to LIV this term: she has settled in quickly and has this to say about her first term in Campbell:
My first term at Campbell has been very exciting! I’ve greatly enjoyed making new friends, trying new activities, and learning from my peers. The teachers and House staff are very supportive, and everyone is so welcoming. It’s been a wonderful start, and I’m looking forward to having even more fun and making new friends and experiences next half-term!
Campbell continue to make the most of daily life at Wycombe. Thursday smoothie bowls have returned by popular demand, offering a welcome break from revision. Inflatables Day and the petting zoo were great fun, our dancers completed their exams for the season, and our Lower School musicians shone in the Summer Concert. The highlight for many, of course, was the puppies visiting the boarding House.
It’s been a busy, fast‑moving, and thoroughly enjoyable half term in Campbell. We wish you all a wonderful Long Leave and look forward to the final half term of the year together.
