A final fortnight in Junior House: A Fond Farewell

As the school year comes to an end it is amazing to think about all that we have achieved. I started the school year talking about ‘firsts’ so it seems only right that I focus on endings as this cohort of girls leave Junior House and head onto their Senior Houses in September.

In the final two weeks of the term we have managed to fit in an almost unbelievable amount of activity. With the end of year examinations over we had the opportunity for learning experiences beyond the classroom and headed off to Dorset for a fantastic residential at Osmington Bay PGL. It was great to be able to spend time together as a year group and see the girls working together in tasks such as building a raft and supporting each other as they paddled it to the pontoon. There were also a number of ‘high’ challenges such as the big swing, trapeze and Jacob’s ladder. Watching the girls having fun, cheer each other on and include the whole group was great to see.

Our final Closed Weekend was jam packed, with parents joining us for Dove day and a great lunch in the Senior House marquees. Everyone was able to reflect on how quickly the year has gone and how they all feel they are a part of the Wycombe Abbey community, the afternoon concert provided an opportunity for a repeat performance of our House song entry “Revolting Children”; another reminder that this year’s Junior House pupils really are a talented group of girls. On Sunday our annual Junior House water fight took place, the perfect way to cool down on a hot day, even Mrs Short and I were unable to escape. In the afternoon the girls enjoyed a surprise treat, trying to keep a secret from the girls in Junior House is not easy! A glitter bar appeared, and everyone was treated to gems and glitter as we got festival ready for Glastonabbey in the evening. GlastonAbbey also provided the opportunity for the debut of a Junior House Rock Band alongside the more established bands.

Our final week in Junior House was equally fun filled. Sports day gave pupils the opportunity to be part of their Senior Houses and see everyone wearing their new House colours. Alongside enjoying our off-timetable days; including the cocurricular project, a trip to Warwick Castle and Giant Science, a mid-week surprise visit by a gelato tricycle helped to fuel the girls’ packing and organising. It was a welcome treat in the summer sunshine!

Our final night of the School year was marked by our House Outing. A trip to Rush Tampoline park with the Junior House staff and Tutors. We had a fantastic night of jumping and bouncing, interrupted by the odd Slushie with everyone making the most of this time together. On return to Junior House we finished off the night with an outdoor Movie in the Junior House Garden as the sun set on the day, the term and our time together in Junior House.

It has been a fantastic year in Junior House and I wish the girls all the best as they move onto their Senior Houses. This isn’t the end but the next step on their Wycombe Abbey Journey.

Now we head off for the summer break and we look forward to welcoming a brand new group to Junior House in September!
