Butler

The Butler Blog

Welcome back!

Butler is back with a bang, and the Autumn Term has been bursting with excitement already. We’ve welcomed Miss Krasner and Miss Storey, nine brilliant Lower Fourth, and four fantastic new boarders to the family.

The Lower Sixth have stepped up to their Mons positions, and we congratulate Chloe on her first half term as Head of House, and Esther as her Deputy.  Since the very first night back, the Butler Buzz has been singing through the House and the Mons have been keeping Butler as playful as ever. Alongside their hot chocolate parties, they have launched everyone into some excellent House activities, including a live version of ‘Among Us’, a House Family quiz, and a Just Dance Battle.

The evening activities continue to be a hit with all the usual favourites, and a few extra surprises sprinkled in along the way. At the start of the year, we all had an excellent time at the funfair, Padre Paul came up to visit, and we’ve started some Year Group challenges in House Order. This month, the girls were treated to a relaxation night in the Butler Spa, and we hosted a surprise Hen Party for Miss Sunil who goes off to India to get married this Long Leave. The girls were challenged with assembling her a new wedding dress, and my goodness, didn’t they do well?

Alongside all the fun and games, there have been some impressive achievements too. All the girls participating in the Wycombe Abbey Competitive Music Festival were wonderful to watch, and an enormous congratulations to Elizabeth who won the percussion section. In sports, the girls have been formidable on the lacrosse pitch, and they’ve been swimming, skiing, and dancing their way to glory too. Well done girls – keep up the tenacity and never stop pursuing the challenges that awaken your spirit!

It was wonderful to bring the Butler parents and families together early in the term for House Drinks, and I look forward to seeing you all again at our next event. I wish you all a relaxing break and I leave you with a little introduction profile on each of our new Butlers. What a brilliant bunch they are!

With warmest wishes,

Lauren Monteil

From our new Butlers:

Yuki

Best thing about my dorm: it’s so fun! I love talking to the others and singing songs.

My favourite House activity: I love eating Miss Flavin’s banana bread at Fruity Friday.

My highlight of Butler so far: my favourite time was when we went for ice cream with Miss Monteil, but overall, I love living in a dorm with my new big sisters.

Ella

Best thing about my dorm: I really like how everyone is really calm and relaxed and if I have some prep that needs to get done, I feel like I can ask them and they will help me. Sometimes we share tuck and share stories and it’s just really fun. My housemother really helped settle me in and she’s really nice (and has really good tuck!)

My favourite House activity: toastie Tuesdays! Everyone comes down and we all hang out and chat about our days while we have toasties. We can make loads of different ones – sweet and savoury!

My highlight of Butler so far: Just Dance – everyone was cheering everyone else on and it didn’t matter if you were really bad at dancing, no one really cared but we all tried and had the best time.

Elizabeth

Best thing about my dorm: being with older girls because they can give you advice on everything they’ve experienced already. We play cards every evening in the dorm and we all read collectively and have fun together.

My favourite House activity: I loved the House Family Just Dance. It was so fun!

My highlight of Butler so far: The whole of Butler! Everything!

Alyssa

Best thing about my dorm: I like that it’s mixed age groups. We normally chat and play cards before we go to bed and it’s so much fun.

My favourite House activity: Toastie Tuesdays!

My highlight of Butler so far: I liked Just Dance. It was exciting to do an activity with my House Family.

Gloria

Best thing about my dorm: the hilarious conversations we have at ‘little lights’. It’s really funny when we talk about the funniest moments we’ve had that day.

My favourite House activity: House Just Dance. It was so funny watching everyone and also so funny when we were up there performing.

My highlight of Butler so far: Nacho Night is great. Everyone crowding around the table together is always good fun.

Adaobi

Best thing about my dorm: I like the people in my dorm. I love the time between 9:40pm until lights out when we’re all just chatting.

My favourite House activity: I love Fruity Friday. Usually I come back late from netball and it’s so nice to have a smoothie or some fruity ice cream to look forward to when I arrive.

My highlight of Butler so far: I found the House quiz really fun. We did it together as a dorm and it was our first activity together.

Isabella

Best thing about my dorm: It is really fun having different age groups together because I feel like I’ve bonded with everyone in different years

My favourite House activity: I love the whole range of evening activities – there is always something fun to do!

My highlight of Butler so far: As a surprise to celebrate Miss Sunil getting married, we had to create a wedding dress for her out of toilet paper. It was such a fun way to bond as a dorm as we all did it together.

Zoe

My favourite House activity: As a day girl, I love the freedom of being able to spend time up in House each evening. I really love the House staff and the House spirit!

My highlight of Butler so far: I liked making the House Film for the Film School activity. We made a murder mystery and I was one of the main editors.

Amelia

Best thing about my dorm: I love the mixed age groups because it’s just so interesting to hear about everyone’s school days and the different things we are learning.

My favourite House activity: I liked the House Family Just Dance. It was really fun to get together in our families. Everyone was cheering and it was brilliant!

My highlight of Butler so far: I loved the Closed Weekend and getting to know the dorm for the first time. We laughed a lot and I remember it being really funny.

Eva

Best thing about my dorm: just everything! I’m in a smaller dorm and I like that because it feels so cosy. I have a buddy in my dorm which is really nice, and my Head of Dorm is so caring. Any questions I have, they give me so much attention and are so supportive.

My favourite House activity: House Dance was really fun. It was so energetic and we got to bond as a house family.

My highlight of Butler so far: There’s a lot! I have found that boarding is so much better than I ever thought it would be.

Emi

Best thing about my dorm: it’s really easy to build connections with your new friends and everyone is really willing to help when you first join.

My favourite House activity: I love when Miss Killow comes up for baking!

My highlight of Butler so far: being able to experience Dorm Life for the first time and slowly getting to know everyone in House.

Chloe

Best thing about my dorm: everyone is getting on really well and I have made so many new friends

My favourite House activity: Fruity Fridays – in particular, smoothies!

My highlight of Butler so far: Spending time with my circle of friends who make it feel like home.

Emma

Best thing about my dorm: that time where we chat just after lights out is a really nice way to bond. Everyone around is so lovely and I like being in one of the inter-connected dorms, because there are even more people to talk to.

My favourite House activity: Just generally chatting and making friends with everyone.

My highlight of Butler so far: When Miss Flavin and Miss Sunil make banana bread for us, it is such a nice surprise!
