The Butler Blog – Merry Christmas!
12 December 2024 - Butler

As the year comes to a close, Butler House is buzzing with excitement for the holidays and pride in the brilliant memories we’ve created together this Term. From sporting successes to magical music, it’s been a Term to remember for our spirited and talented girls. Here’s a look back at all the fun, achievements, and laughter that made this Term so special.
Sporting Spirit: Lacrosse Funals and House Dance
The half-term kicked off with the much-anticipated House Dance display. The Upper IV were poised and precise in their fantastic rendition of ‘Ex-Wives’ from Six. They dazzled as dancing divas on the night and secured an impressive second place in the competition. Move over, Strictly!

The next triumph came during the House Funals Lacrosse tournament. Butler played with determination, skill, and an incredible sense of camaraderie. Every goal scored was met with roaring cheers from our loyal supporters, and the team spirit on display was nothing short of inspiring. The girls gave it their all, and we couldn’t be prouder of their effort and sportsmanship. The team reached the semi-finals and placed a very respectable third overall—an achievement to celebrate!

Bonfire Night Magic
November saw us gather for a spectacular Bonfire Night, and what a night it was! Wrapped up in cozy scarves and gloves, we enjoyed the crackling bonfire, dazzling fireworks, and, of course, delicious treats from the food stalls. It was a perfect way to come together as a community and embrace the autumn season.
The Lower IV added a creative twist to the evening by crafting a wonderful Guy for the bonfire. True to their imaginative flair, they chose to parade “Anxiety” from Inside Out 2 through the crowds before its fiery farewell, much to everyone’s delight!
Our charity champions also hosted an outstanding Charity Stall at the event. All the girls’ hard work paid off, as Butler raised the second-highest amount of all the Houses! Together, the Houses collected over £5,000 for the School’s chosen charities, Mary’s Meals and Wycombe Refugee Partnership. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed—your efforts have truly made a difference to those in need.

Decking the Halls
The festive season officially began when our Lower IV girls took charge of decorating the Christmas tree. Armed with tinsel, baubles, and plenty of creative flair, they transformed the fireplace into a festive haven. The tree now stands tall and twinkling, a testament to the teamwork and sparkling spirit that define Butler.

Harry Potter Baking Night
During Reading Week, the House transformed into Miss Killow’s Hogwarts kitchen for our Harry Potter baking night. From ‘Sorting Hat hot chocolates’ to ‘broomstick biscuits’, the creations were as magical as the wizarding world itself. The girls had a blast experimenting with designs (and sneaking tastes of icing), and the results were spellbindingly delicious!
The night culminated with the girls gathered around the Christmas tree, sipping their handmade hot chocolates and listening to a chapter from Harry Potter. It was a cozy, heartwarming evening that brought the magic of books to life.

A Musical Marvel
We were treated to a melodic masterpiece when Fiona conducted the House Ensemble in a stunning performance of music from West Side Story. Bravo, Fiona, for bringing the House together through the universal language of music!
It was wonderful to see the rest of the House encouraging Fiona, Chloe, Daphne, Elizabeth, Vivienne, and Yuki as they played, as well as cheering on the talented performers from other Houses. The warmth and mutual support on display were a true reflection of the Butler spirit.

Festive Fun
As the holidays approached, Butler House embraced the season with an array of festive activities that filled us all with Christmas cheer. One of the highlights was the House Families gingerbread house decorating competition. Each family brought their A-game, crafting some masterpieces worthy of a Great British Bake Off handshake from judge Mr Woods.

No festive season in Butler would be complete without our annual Butler Bop! With the common room decked out in sparkling lights and a playlist of holiday classics, the girls danced the evening away in true Butler style. It was a night of energy, joy, and some very memorable dance moves, leaving everyone in high spirits.

The term culminated in Christmas Lunch and the all-time favourite Dorm Feast, a cherished tradition that never fails to delight. What a perfect way to celebrate the term together!
Looking Ahead
As wave goodbye to the Autumn term, we want to say a huge thank you to every girl in Butler for their energy, kindness, and enthusiasm. From the laughter echoing through the halls to the support shown for one another in House events, Butler House is truly a special place.
Here’s wishing you all a joyful and restful festive season. We can’t wait to see what adventures the new term will bring!
With love and Butler pride,
Miss Monteil and The Butler House Team ❤️
