House Dinner
We were once again blessed with glorious weather for our House Dinner, which saw record numbers of guests attend Shelburne (138 in total!) for our annual barbecue and rounders match. Thank you to everyone that attended for making the event such a success.
Drama
Isabella and Mij performed in a production of The Revengers, written by Wycombe Abbey’s very own Head of Drama, Mr James Harrington. The plot spotlights the ‘weird sisters’ from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, who are angry about being stuck on a Scottish moor and having not been given their own character names. Together, they take over the complete works of Shakespeare and make their way into the real world to seek revenge on the man who penned them. Congratulations to both pupils for their involvement in this brilliantly entertaining production.
L5 have also been working incredibly hard on their entry into the Inter-House Play Competition. Directed by Ava and Annabelle, they created a murder mystery play based on the nursery rhyme ‘row, row, row your boat’.
Dove Day
It was fantastic to see so many Shelburne families for Dove Day this year. Although the Dog Show was unable to go ahead due to the hot weather, the reintroduction of the raft race more than made up for this in entertainment value! Eve, Sophie, Radha, Isolda, Zoe, Penney, Alexandra and Sophie were selected to build and race our raft against the other Houses. The circular course around the lake’s island was tough, but our girls managed to beat Airlie and Rubens in their heat to win a place in the final. Cloister and Wendover, our sister Houses, also placed first in their heats and resulted in a nail-biting Daws Hill final. Despite some challenges with one of their barrels and some loose knots, Shelburne sailed their contraption into a respectable 2nd place overall. Well done to all those involved!
Despite being a few members down, the tug of war team also gave their best in the arena and provided fantastic entertainment for spectators. Thank you and well done to Nell, Ava, Zoe, Lexi, Armenell, Anjola and Neeva.
We also had several members of Shelburne showing off their talents in various performances. The choir performed ‘A Million Dreams’ during the Chapel service, and Ava gave a fantastic rendition of her LAMDA exam piece in Fisher Library. Over lunch, member of Junior Concert Band also brought the house down with some classic feel-good songs. In the afternoon, Kate took to the stage with several dance routines from last term’s Highlights show, Frida performed with Phire Choir and Nell sang two solo songs from Wicked.
Glaston Abbey
Nell, Frida, Ameera, Alexandra, Kate and Hen also took to the stage on Sunday evening at Glastonabbey. The whole weekend was a spectacle of incredible talent, and I am so proud of them all for putting themselves forward to be involved.
Goodbyes
The end of year celebrations always bring an inevitable sadness as we prepare to say goodbye to members of our community. This year, we have pupils and staff moving on to pastures new. The Lower VI will be graduating from Shelburne into Clarence for their final year, and Maryam and Lexi have left us for new schools too. These pupils have all made immeasurable contributions to the House during their time with us and we wish them all the best of luck for their bright futures ahead of them.
We also say goodbye to our Resident Tutor, Miss Emilia Hubbard, and to our L4 Tutor Miss Sophie Dubois. Miss Hubbard will be returning to her alma mater, Oakham School, to be the Music Graduate Tutor there, and Miss Dubois will be joining the French Department at Godolphin and Latymer School. We would like to take this opportunity to wish them both the very best of luck in their new roles and to thank them for their contributions to Shelburne during their time with us.
