Spring Term in Cloister

What a fantastic start to 2025 it has been in Cloister House. The girls have been as busy as ever in every aspect of School life, from the sports pitch to the stage!

Welcome Mrs Maddison and Miss Hobson

We have been delighted to welcome two new members of staff to the Cloister House Team. Mrs Maddison joins us from Rubens where she had worked as Resident Matron for the Autumn Term. We have been so lucky to sample her wonderful cooking every Monday at House Order, the highlight being the pizza pinwheels! Miss Hobson has joined as Resident Tutor. She has a Masters in Advanced Biological Sciences and has previously worked with a range of different animals. She has also spent the previous few years volunteering with the Scouts. Miss Hobson’s baking-themed activities have gone down a storm!

Drama

This term started off with the Sixth Form Play “The Servant of two Masters”. Despite the very quick turnaround Alice (L6th) put on a sterling performance, making audience members laugh and cry in equal measure! It was then the turn of the  Fifth Form who put on an excellent performance of “Alice”. Tina, Emma, Ashley and Defne should all be commended on their excellent performances. We look forward to the ‘Revengers’ later on in the year staring many of our Fourth Form.

Sport

It has been an extremely busy term for Sport. The highlight for the House has to be the Netball Funals, where the first team narrowly missed a spot in the final, coming an impressive third place. A special mention have to go to our Sports Captain, Gabby, who scored many of the goals. Alice M (LIV) won House Cross Country for her age group which was a fantastic achievement! Izzy has also had success in Netball outside School, playing for the Scotland Netball Team in her free time! We have also had girls contributing to a range of sports including Swimming, Golf and Lacrosse.

Music

Cloister have been practicing hard for House Shout at the end of term. Elaine has arranged a really good rendition of a very famous song, which is sure to be a success! Elsewhere, we have had representatives in a range of different school orchestras and groups. We wish Isabelle, Phoenix, Catherine, Sisi and Kelly the very best of luck in the Orchestral Concert at St Mary’s, Marylebone at the end of this week.

Cloister at TedX

On February 3rd, two Cloister girls Cindy and Vivienne both participated in Wycombe’s first ever TEDx event. Cindy’s speech offered insight into personality tests such as MBTI, exploring how they rigidly define and categorise multi-dimensional individuals into fixed categories. Vivienne delved into the lesser-known drawbacks of social media by comparing its effects on society to a baby’s pacifier. We are immensely proud of their achievements! More information can be found on the official TEDxWycombe Abbey website.

House activities

Cloister has put on a range of activities which have been thoroughly by both the staff and students! Dumpling making with Miss Millwood and Miss Hobson was a real treat for Lunar New Year, as were Galentines Toasties. We have also been treated to Jellycat cakes and chocolate strawberries, along with Valentines Rose making and Profiterole creations!

I hope that every member of the Cloister community has a wonderful, restful Long Leave.
