Slipping through my fingers..’
5 July 2024 - Barry
It happens every year that we have to say goodbye to the Lower VI moving to Clarence.
A fond farewell to Scarlett, Frances, Cosima, Issy, Emma, Ana, Kate, Addison, Gloria, Aanya.
I write this blog with immense pride and a touch of sadness. For up to five incredible years, you have called Barry House your home. You’ve grown, learned, and become leaders here, and now it’s time for you to take the next step in your journey as you move into Clarence.
As you gracefully bow out, the halls of Barry House resonate with the echoes of reflection, a symphony of introspection that follows the crescendo of your hard work. Each corridor becomes a mirror reflecting not just academic triumphs, but also personal growth—a testament to the commitment to be your best self within the walls of Barry House. The pathways of kindness extend through the House, where you, having weathered challenges together, shared smiles, tears, and support.
As I sit here and write, I can’t help but feel the poignancy of the moment. Like the lyrics of “Slipping Through My Fingers,” I see you all moving on, and it’s a bittersweet feeling watching the days go by. I try to capture every minute, the feeling in it, and it all slips through my fingers. The joy, the hard work, and the little things that make you unique—they’re precious moments I will always remember.
As the term concludes, the collective reflection in Barry House reminds us that the truest success lies in the delicate balance of diligence, self-improvement, and the simple, powerful act of kindness.
You’ve shown resilience, compassion, and determination, embodying the very spirit of House. Your laughter has filled our halls, your efforts have set new standards, and your camaraderie has made this place truly special.
As you transition to Clarence, remember the values and lessons you’ve learned here. Carry with you the spirit of unity and the drive for excellence that have defined your time with us. You are ready for this new chapter, and I have no doubt you will continue to shine brightly.
Thank you for the memories, the hard work, and the joy you’ve brought to our House. We will miss you, but we are excited to see the incredible things you will achieve in Clarence and beyond.
Go forth with confidence, knowing that you have a whole House cheering you on. Good luck, and remember, Barry will always be your home.

From the Heads’ of House.
Taking on the role of Head of House for Barry this year has been one of the most fulfilling experiences during our time here. After five years in Barry’s vibrant community, our main focus was maintaining and building on our House spirit. We’ve shown this spirit in various events, from bonfire night guy-making to our spirited House shout (we still believe we were robbed). Organising the House party in the Autumn Term and seeing everyone in costumes was a highlight. Movie nights and Toastie Thursdays were beloved traditions we will miss when we move to Clarence next year.
Barry’s community has always given us a sense of belonging and comfort, with its kind, loving, and bubbly personalities. Leading this House was a delight, combining leadership, responsibility, and the chance to be mentors for younger students. It involved organising activities, from House Outings, House Dinners to Dove Day, fostering camaraderie, and ensuring all students felt valued.
A standout moment was Bonfire Night, where we organised our charity stall, selling out and raising the most money. Barry House Dinner and Dove Day, where we created the charity hamper, were particularly meaningful.
This role allowed us to give back to the House and the people who have supported us. We look forward to seeing Barry’s continued achievements.

From the House Captains
As Captains, we couldn’t be prouder of our Housemates’ dedication, teamwork, and spirit in House Games this year. This year’s Sports Day was a great display of determination, enthusiasm, and bad face paint from everyone in Barry. It was marked by impressive performances, school records, and victories. A memorable part of the day was Tess E breaking the school discus record with a throw of over 26m.
Our football team also had a remarkable run, finishing in second place in House Funals. House games this year have been filled with some great wins and some battle losses. Another highlight was our victory against Wendover House in lacrosse. Known for their strong lacrosse team, Wendover has always been a tough competitor, but we were tougher! MVP Flo led us to a well-deserved win.
Overall, Barry showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship, making this year unforgettable. We’re going to miss this role greatly and have had the most amazing time watching everyone enjoy sports and work hard to make BAZZA proud. We couldn’t have asked for a better year with Barry and we wish the next House Captains the best of luck; we know they’ll be brilliant. Finally, we will still be there to cheer on Barry next year (from Clarence)! Come on Barry!
Issy and Cosima (LVI)

As we conclude this wonderful summer term, I am filled with pride and gratitude for all that we have achieved together. This term has been a testament to the incredible spirit, dedication, and camaraderie that defines Barry House. From outstanding performances in sports and academics to the memorable events that brought us closer together, each moment has contributed to a vibrant and enriching experience. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the girls, staff and parents for your support and contribution to building a great community. I wish you all a wonderful summer break.
