Rubens House Blog Summer Term – second half 2026

Our final blog of the academic year is a takeover. Our new Head of House Amelie (LVI) and Deputy Head of House Dottie (LVI), have written up a farewell to the pink palace. Next year they will begin their exciting UVI adventure in Clarence and we again welcome in a new cohort of LIV. We hope you enjoy Amelie and Dottie’s take over!

As this year ends, and we prepare to leave Rubens for Clarence, we wanted to reflect on how much our Rubens sisterhood means to us, and particularly how special this year has been. We started June with our House chapel service and it was wonderful. Thank you to Elisia (LVI) Louise (LVI) Ava (LVI) Alice (LV) Elizabeth (UIV) Leonor (LIV) Sanchia (UIV) Amelie (LVI) who took part in this!

Sport has been a huge feature of the Summer term. From Pitt Vs Rubens rounders (we lost two big games narrowly) to the House making a splash at Dove Day, we have so much to reflect fondly on. A big thanks must go to House Captains Annamaria (LVI) and Ava (LVI) for organising our sporting events throughout the year; from our rounders game against Pitt to our tug of war, Rubens girls have shown up with incredible spirit, which we look forward to seeing as we compete on Sports Day.

On Saturday 20th June, the sun shone brightly to celebrate our founder for Dove Day. The whole House decorated the tent early on Saturday morning and it looked absolutely stunning. Thank you to Mrs Pearce for her help with the flower decorations. Nobly supported by Elizabeth (UIV) Sanchia (UIV) Alice (LV) and Lara (LV).

A huge congratulations to our raft racing team at Dove Day, who rowed to victory and claimed first place! Champion rowers included Dora (UIII) Annamaria (LVI) Arabella (UIV) Anya (LV) Amelie (LVI) Olivia (UIV) Maya (LIV). You rowed Rubens to victory and this will never be forgotten! Thank you to Cherry (LVI) and Amelie (LVI), our Charity officers, for organising our pink themed Dove Day hamper, and to all of the charitable contributions this year, most notably the 1,000 can donation to the Mary’s Meals charity.

We also want to say a special thank you to our previous Head of House, Emma (LVI) and Deputy Head of House, Mati (LVI) who lead Rubens so beautifully for two terms. We were so proud to see them host and run GlastonAbbey on the big stage! We wish them all the best for their UVI as Head Girl (Mati) and Deputy Head girl (Emma)!

With drama events this year, Rubens has certainly been in the spotlight! With many of our pink sisters performing in the Guys and Dolls musical, the fourth form play Wendy and Peter, and the entire LV telling the untold story of Aladdin as part of the House drama competition. This piece of drama was written and directed by Charlotte W (LV) and it was well-structured, thoroughly entertaining, and definitely worth a winning place! Although we won’t know who has won until the very last day of term, we still think our LV girls are winners.

We have also had the privilege of hosting three LV girls on exchange from Australia this term. Angelina, Jhanvi, and Tuana have fit perfectly into Rubens, bringing laughter and dedication to the House even in their short time here. We hope you take lots of warm memories home with you and a deep love for Percy Pigs.

Finally, on behalf of every LVI, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the entire House for making our last memories of Rubens so incredibly special. To our younger sisters, we are so proud of every contribution you make, and we have loved getting to know you. We hope you cherish every moment of your time in Rubens. Believe us, it goes far too quickly. To the House Team and Tutors, we are hugely grateful for everything you have done for us over the last five years, from weekly in-House traditions to individual support. Rubens is truly a sisterhood, and we are so proud to have led all the precious piglets this term.

Amelie & Dottie 😊
