Mr Scupp’s Half Term Round Up

This term has been a busy one for Clarence House. After diligently working on their university applications for upwards of a year, and having clicked that ‘submit’ button in the Autumn Term, the wait for offers to come through has felt like a long one. Like the trees outside the Abbey beginning to blossom, those long‑dormant university applications are now starting to bear fruit. Over the past few months, pupils have begun hearing back from universities here in the UK and from around the world.

We have been thrilled to see the wonderful results coming out of the UK, with one in four UVI pupils receiving an Oxbridge offer and, equally impressively, all applicants for Medicine and Veterinary Medicine receiving offers. The girls have so far received over 250 offers from across the UK, with our most popular universities currently being Durham, UCL, KCL, Edinburgh, Imperial College, and St Andrew’s.

With a record‑breaking 40% of the UVI cohort applying outside the UK this year, we have eagerly awaited their outcomes and have been thrilled by their success. Twenty pupils submitted over 55 early applications to the United States and have received spectacular offers from top universities including Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Stanford, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Virginia, the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, UNC Chapel Hill and Tulane, to name but a few. With a further 170 applications made to the US through the regular decision round, we are now beginning to see those results appear in application portals. Most recent offers have come from Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, Tufts University, the University of California campuses at Irvine, Davis, Riverside and San Diego, Colby College and Syracuse University. More decisions will arrive daily until early April, and we look forward to celebrating further successes next term.

Outside of the UK and US, 18 pupils applied to universities in nine different countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain and Thailand. Their hard work has yielded offers from universities such as the University of Sydney, McGill University, the University of Toronto, Hong Kong University, Bocconi, Keio University and IE University. While we continue to await additional results from both the UK and abroad, we are already incredibly proud of the effort the girls have put into their applications and the outcomes they have achieved.

Having gained so much valuable knowledge during their time at Wycombe Abbey, the UVI had several opportunities this term to share their wisdom with the LVI girls. Across two sessions, six of those who applied to universities this year met with their LVI counterparts, who began the process in January, and some of the UVI who completed EPQs met with the LVI, who have just submitted their first drafts. These sessions allowed the LVI to ask questions, gather useful tips and insights, and learn from peers who had only just gone through the process, what they wished they had known at the start, and to make helpful connections for future guidance and resources.

If one can imagine that anything else happened in Clarence House besides refreshing application portals in search of the next great offer (this author cannot), the girls also sat their Mocks this term, offset by some fun along the way including massages from an external company, snacks, Colin the Caterpillar cakes, and even an Après Mocks party!

With the end of the Spring Term approaching, the girls squeezed in their last ever House Outing on Monday night to the Everyman Theatre. The girls were able to sit back and relax while they learned How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – it was so lovely to hear them giggling throughout the evening and enjoying time together as a year group.

As Clarence House empties for the Easter Holiday, the girls are surely looking forward to some relaxation and time at home alongside their revision. We look forward to welcoming back for their final term at Wycombe!
