Merry Christmas from Campbell

As ever, the term has flown past and the Christmas break is almost upon us! We have had a marvellous second half term of the year and the girls have been kept incredibly busy. We have enjoyed Reading Week, where our House Librarians, Sia and Lisa, tried to fill the House Library with as many books as possible, and lots of the House went to Literary Society’s Pizza and Poetry evening.
Our ongoing friendly competition with our Sister House, Airlie, has continued this term. We have joined them for a Bingo Evening with plenty of prizes, and ran a Dodgeball competition together to round out the term. Although Campbell were, on this occasion, winners only in our hearts, we are looking forward to the next event where we are sure we will be victorious!
This term has been a busy one for our House Conductor, Mia, who has coordinated our entry to the House Ensemble competition. A wonderfully eclectic group of instruments took to the stage to great applause from Campbell and the rest of the School. Next term, Mia will have the responsibility of our entry to the House Singing competition – another important event in the School calendar!
We have also seen our UV cohort through one of their more stressful periods: Mocks! The LIV were delighted to support them in any way that they could, including joining in with ‘Dorm Decs’, where they decorated their Head of Dorm’s bed area.

“Dorm Decs was an amazing experience. We had a chance to decorate the UV’s dorms to make them beautiful. After the warm welcome from them, we all wanted to help them get through their Mocks. Each room was unique and showed all the friendships that had been made within. Dorm Decs also reflected all the different personalities in the dorms. We made intricate paper decorations and put posters all over the walls. Not only was it about making the rooms beautiful it was about creating a homely atmosphere for the UV’s. The efforts brought us even closer together as a dorm and the surprise on our UV’s face made the hard work worth it.”
This term, our UIV performed their House Dance. As one of the highly anticipated events of the School year, they had been preparing for the previous few weeks, planning and cutting the music to the correct length, and choreographing a fantastic routine to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ and ‘Cheap Thrills’

House Dance was really a great experience, and everyone really loved it. Creating the dance was unquestionably so enjoyable and it was amazing that all our Tutor Group could come together and spend time doing something creative and fun. I think that although it wasn’t about winning, the performing was still fun and seeing all the Houses doing their dances. This was one of my favourite things I have done here before and as much as it can be stressful the event is so entertaining and memorable every year. I think it really bonded us a year group and has made us feel closer together as a community.
Our term culminated in a lovely way with the last weekend of term – a Closed Weekend – where we enjoyed our normal Christmas activities and came together as a House to celebrate.

House Christmas (Emma, LV)
In Campbell, Secret Santa and the Christmas lunch are more than just traditions – they help bring the community together and are always lots of fun. Opening your gift with all your friends and tying to guess who in the house got it for you is always a highlight of the term, and sitting with people from all year groups around the big tables and eating Christmas dinners are always enjoyable too. I especially enjoy the Christmas Lunch because it gives you a chance to talk to people from all year groups that you may not have had the chance to speak to before – like the new girls coming into LIV.
This term has been a truly enjoyable one, filled with plenty of festive fun. We wish everyone a wonderful festive season, and look forward to returning to Campbell in the New Year.
