End of the Spring Term in Campbell

Campbell House have had a marvellous term, and it seems to be a truth universally acknowledged that the weather at this point in the term is dramatically improved from the start! We have, as always, packed our term full with lots of fun and adventure, with a high proportion of the 4th form involved in rehearsals for the 4th form play (which we are looking forward to next term), a lot of exquisite dancing on display in the recent Highlights show, as well as a busy bunch of lacrosse players who have all been involved in Nationals: Campbell House are certainly ready for a rest!
Before some photos to capture the fun that we have had this term, I am pleased to introduce our House Editor, Nell, who was given the job to write about a typical ‘Day in the Life’ for her.
Hello! My name is Nell, and I am Campbell’s House Editor in Lower VI. For this Term’s blog, I decided to mix it up and do “A Day in the Life” to give an authentic taste of Wycombe Abbey and Campbell. I hope you enjoy it!
In the morning, it was our Tutor Breakfast, so we used our budget to all get Starbucks drinks! This was a lovely start to our day and motivated us to keep going for the final push before Easter holidays.
In my Spanish conversation lesson, I was learning about the history and culture of Spain. I often ask the teacher to write information on the white board as I learn better being able to visually picture it. I am hoping to study Spanish and Business at University, so it is important for me that I understand what will be tested on the stimulus cards for my oral exam! This Summer, I am going on a Spanish course in Malaga so that I don’t forget my grammar and continue to practice.
I then was taken to my Primary School Placement with three other students, and we each listened to a class of KS2 children read individually. They all have different abilities, so it is encouraging to watch their progress each week. It is also so nice to be able to interact and play games with young children in their break time and two of them gave me very sweet friendship bracelets. It is a very nostalgic feeling going back to that environment and made me miss it a lot!
After School, I went to the gym for a good break in my revision. I’m trying to plan an achievable fitness plan while still being able to balance my studies and other extracurricular activities. I like the treadmill because I can keep track of my pace and distance, gradually increasing it each week, but this can only be done if I have an energising cranberry drink!
For English A level, we went on a School trip with the Upper VI to see Hamlet in a theatre in Stratford upon Avon, which had an amazing set meant to look like the Titanic. It was so helpful to be able to visualise the story ahead of learning it, and interesting to see which parts of the original script they had adapted for a more modern viewing experience.
Today was pancake day, so I helped make some of the pancakes in the kitchen- there were lots of toppings to choose from like lemon and whipped cream, but I need to improve my flipping skills! For lent, I’ve given up cheese because there is too much salt in my diet!
Our House Singing performance is coming up soon so we all gathered in the Drawing Room to practice our song and discuss possible costumes, as well as new choreography. We are determined to become finalists this year and have included harmonies and soloists! We couldn’t do it without Judy, our very talented House Conductor either….
To celebrate the end of term, our House outing was chosen to be escape rooms and a burger dinner. We all had a great time!
It is always a bittersweet moment to see everyone leave for the holidays, but we wish all of our Campbell family a happy and restful break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in time for the Summer Term.
