Christmas in Wendover

As if by magic, we have reached the end of the Autumn Term. Once again, the Term has been jam-packed! The Autumn Term, leading into the Christmas break in Wendover is nothing short of magical. As we gather under the twinkling lights and festive decorations, the air is filled with the warmth of camaraderie and the excitement of various competitions. This Term, Wendover experienced a whirlwind of events – from the eccentric Guy competition, ginger-bread house making to a victorious House Ensemble performance.
We had high hopes for our Guy competition entry this year; a cherished Wycombe Abbey tradition which saw our LIV work together to create an object or character in their house colour. This year, our entry was a giant, red Chanel lipstick and, if I say so myself, we were robbed! However, the effort and creativity poured into this masterpiece from the LIV should be highly commended. One victory we did seize was first place for the best decorated charity stall on Bonfire Night. I have to say, our Charity reps, Eden and Cassandra, did a fantastic job and we raised over £250! In a world that often takes itself too seriously, the Guy competition allows us to embrace our playful side and showcase the creativity that flourishes within the walls of Wendover House!
After our success at House Dance, I had officially re-named us ‘Win-dover’ and, luckily I did, as the House Ensemble crew proved we deserved that title! Led by the wonderfully talented Linda; Frances, Chloe, Yoyo, Anaya, Doris, Kelly, Maddie P, Emily W and May took to the stage to play a mesmerising rendition of ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay. The House Ensemble competition not only highlighted our musical talents but also reinforced how hard the team had worked to pull such a fantastic performance together in just three sessions. Even more impressively, they took over Long Corridor every evening, demonstrating how hard they worked and how focused they were on winning! Winning the House Ensemble competition wasn’t just a victory for our musical skills; it was a celebration of the collective spirit that makes Wendover the special place it is.
One of my favourite memories so far has been watching the LIV decorate the Wendover Christmas tree. Seeing them work together and enjoying every second was what Christmas is all about. Of course, we continued the tradition of the youngest girl in House putting the star on top which, this year, was Thomasina. We had a visit from Mr Woods and the School bunnies which were a brilliant surprise. We decorated gingerbread houses and then ate them as soon as the last sweet was put on!
To finish, I would like to say how much I have enjoyed being Housemistress to your daughters. I have been welcomed with open arms, as have my husband and daughters. I have said it a thousand times, but Wendover is a special place to live, and I never take for granted what a privilege it is to look after your daughters. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy New Year and look forward to seeing many of you at our Wendover House dinner in January.
