Airlie – Summer Term 2

Wow. Just like that, the year has flown by and we’ve reached the end once again. It’s always astonishing how much fits into such a short space of time. Our hats go off to the girls for their dedication, enthusiasm, perseverance, and for keeping their sense of humour even during those tired moments. It has truly been another wonderful year in Airlie and we already look forward to returning after everyone enjoys a well‑deserved break.
Here is a round‑up of what we’ve been up to as we wrapped up the Summer term:
The half term began with two energetic summer activities. First, the girls took part in a rounders match against Campbell on a sunny Tuesday evening. They approached it with real focus, and the LVI even led a full warm‑up to get everyone ready. It proved to be great preparation for the final House Finals of the year later that week—this time on the cricket pitch. The girls showed their competitive streak, throwing themselves into the matches with teamwork and plenty of laughter. Whether batting, bowling, or cheering from the sidelines, the atmosphere was fantastic and it was lovely to see them enjoying themselves together.
On Tuesday 16th May, we began our goodbyes with a special farewell breakfast for the LVI as they entered their final two weeks in Airlie. Over pastries, scrambled eggs, avocado and smoked salmon, they reminisced about their six years in the House—years filled with friendships, late‑night chats, shared challenges, and countless memories. We know they will thrive in Clarence, but we hope they’ll visit often. There will always be room for them here in Airlie.
This day also marked the official send‑off for our UV as they headed into the summer after completing their GCSEs. Their resilience and positivity throughout exam season made us incredibly proud. We can’t wait to welcome them back in September as they begin the next exciting stage of their journey in Sixth Form.
One Wednesday evening, we welcomed our incoming UIII Airlie girls for a night in the House. They headed to dinner with their newly appointed House Mothers, roles the LIV are taking very seriously. It was a great opportunity for the UIII girls to learn the routines of the House and experience some of our traditions. They even got to enjoy Miss Caldwell’s famous Waffle Wednesday. We can’t wait to see what personality and fun the new Airlians bring next year.
Our final closed weekend of the year saw the return of our much‑loved Dove Day, a celebration of community, connection, and House spirit. The weather was glorious, and it was a joy to welcome so many parents and families into the Airlie tent. We were so proud of our rafters. Even though we didn’t win, we gave Rubens a real challenge and held our own. Best of all, the raft stayed intact, so everyone stayed (mostly) dry. The dog show was another highlight—next year we’ll have to encourage more Airlie dogs to take part. Mrs Garcia’s dog, Coco, may need a little more training before she’s brave enough to join in!
Sunday brought the return of the much‑anticipated GlastonAbbey festivities, filling the school grounds with music, colour, and festival spirit. The girls embraced the event with glitter, creativity, and enthusiasm, making it one of the standout moments of the term. Being such a musical house, we had many girls involved, but a special shout‑out goes to Sia and Iselda, who were selected to perform solos. Their renditions of ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and ‘Halo’ were outstanding.
The LV entertained us with their LV play on the final Monday of the year. Their brief of ‘Sidelined Sidekick’ challenged them to create a spin‑off story focusing on a secondary character. Our producer, Daisy, wrote a brilliant version inspired by Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Their comedic timing, energy, and commitmentmade for an unforgettable evening. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they brought the story to life.
Due to the extremely hot weather, the throwback traditional Sports Day that we had planned for House Ining was cancelled and instead we joined in with a huge water fight against Campbell. There were water guns, water balloons and all sorts of other water-filled implements being fired! It was a great way for the girls to keep cool. We enjoyed delicious burritos and nachos from Blidano’s Mexican food truck, followed by mountains of ice cream because no sunny day is complete without it! Sunshine, laughter and community spirit made it a perfect afternoon.
The year came to a rather abrupt end due to the heatwave, but we can’t say that the girls minded too much. They are all eager to head off and enjoy the wonderful holiday that lies before them.
As we close the 2025–2026 year in Airlie, we say goodbye to several members of our Airlie community, who have a few final memories they want to share…
Chloe Wong (LVI, Head of House)
What has your favourite moment/memory been in Airlie?
I couldn’t possibly choose a single favourite moment in my entire time in Airlie. But I’d have to say some of the best memories were made late at night, playing cards with the entire dorm crammed into a single cubie under torch light (sorry, House staff!). This is because, no matter how busy we were, whether it was LIVs with 2 preps or U5s studying for GCSEs, we could never say no to spending time with our dormmates.
What are you going to miss the most about Airlie when you leave?
I will miss the Airlie house spirit the most, even if we don’t always win competitions, I love the excitement and joy of cheering on the lovely members of our community. Even in Clarence, I’ll still root for Airlie wholeheartedly. A special mention to my fellow Airlie Mons for being the best housemates I could ask for through the last 5 years, and for such a memorable time in our beloved Senior House.

What has your favourite moment/memory been in Airlie?
I have so many fond memories being in Airlie, but one that stands out is when Chloe, Amalia and I woke up at 6am during GCSE mocks just to complete the most challenging Overcooked level. Minutes before our English exam, we finally achieved our 4 stars. The level of happiness will be something I never forget!
What are you going to miss the most about Airlie when you leave?
I will definitely miss all of our Airlie inside jokes and our raging house spirit. No other house has a community as strong as ours and I will miss this the most
Miss Calder (Deputy Housemistress)
What has your favourite memory in Airlie been?
I think my favourite memory has to be House Shout. Watching the girls rehearse so hard for it was incredible, and I will never hear ‘I Want It That Way’ the same way again. I was bursting with pride seeing them perform, and I still stand by my belief that Airlie were absolutely robbed of the title!
What are you going to miss the most in Airlie?
Where to even begin. I will miss the relationships with the girls more than anything. I’ll miss the wonderfully organic moments that come with living alongside 44 teenagers—the conversations over Greek salad and toasties, the laughter before bedtime, and the chaos when they all break into song five minutes before lights out. It has truly been an experience I’ll never forget, and I really do hope I’ll be back in the House again one day.

What has your favourite memory in Airlie been?
It has to be the same as Miss Calder – watching the girls perform in House Shout. They were so good – we were robbed!
What are you going to miss the most in Airlie?
I’m going to miss all of the evening catch ups in the kitchen, during all of our wonderful evening activities, Waffle Wednesday, Greek Salad Tuesday and Nacho Friday!
