The girls returned from the long Easter break to a five-week half term in which barely a day passed without at least one Butler girl sitting an exam. The LVI had to hit the ground running with theirs when they came back, and the LIV, UIV and UV can now enjoy a complete break from work over Long Leave, after a few days filled with intent and intensity. Meanwhile, the UV have coped marvellously with their GCSE exams, and I am sure they will continue to soldier on after Long Leave.

The Closed Weekend at the start of the half term provided great entertainment by way of Giant Inflatables, a Petting Zoo and a Silent Disco. Three weeks later, one of our School Counsellors, Heather, visited Butler and Barry with her gorgeous puppies, providing an oasis of calm for at least one evening.

Tennis Funals and the taking of the House photo were another two opportunities for the House to come together in solidarity, which they did with great camaraderie.

Everyone in Butler is very much looking forward to our UIII cohort joining us as our new LIV in September. This half term, they and the current LIV had an enjoyable dinner together down at School and the UIV were introduced to them up at House. Emily very kindly wrote a lovely piece about the latter occasion for the School website on behalf of all the UIII, and it is worth reprinting here:

Junior House were lucky enough to be hosted by our Senior Houses (in my case, Butler) for a fun evening filled with food, fun and traditions. The night started off with a picnic dinner in the garden with all the welcoming UIVs, where we had delicious wraps and chatted with our future House Mistresses. Due to the lovely weather, we decided to go outside and play some games. After some competitive rounds of 40-40 Homie, Hide and Seek, and Splat, it was getting late, and the time had flown by, so we decided to have a tour before heading back up to our cosy beds. The Houses were so welcoming and homely, and my friends and I are already envisioning which dorms we’ll be in next year! It was so fun, and I can’t wait to come back soon!

“I wonder what it would like to live in a world where it was always June?”, mused Anne of Green Gables and, delightfully, after Long Leave we at Wycombe will get to enjoy a half term where it is always June! There is much to look forward to, especially Sports Day and Dove Day. Whilst not quite knowing what to expect, I am looking forward to experiencing my first celebratory day in honour of our founder! The Butler House team is looking forward to seeing many of you then and, in the meantime, we wish you and your daughters a wonderful Long Leave.
