Airlie House – Spring Term Two

On the first weekend of the half‑term, the Airlie pupils transformed into star bakers in preparation for our charity bake sale. The kitchen was filled with the smells of banana loaf, matcha cookies and lemon shortbread. Although the girls still have a little to learn about loading a dishwasher and wiping down a kitchen surface after baking, their creations turned out wonderfully.
The bake sale was a roaring success: customers were queueing for miles and the excitement was palpable. Padre Paul even said it was the most popular bake sale he had ever seen! The girls’ hard work paid off, raising around £450 for our School charities.
The last few weeks have been full to the brim with socials, including Rock Soc, which is one of the most loved among our girls. Airlie pupils starred in the bands Ginge and Tonic, Drift, 4 N’ a Half, Afterglow, and One More Shot. They shone once again with their musical talents, playing bass, singing vocals and performing on drums, to name just a few. The crowd, made up of both Wycombe and Harrow pupils, was roaring, as if they were watching a gig at Wembley.
On 5th March, the Airlie girls joined in with the national initiative of dressing up as a book character to celebrate World Book Day. It was a little more difficult registering them in the morning as we had a whole host of characters walking down the stairs, including Sherlock Holmes, creatures from Commotion in the Ocean, robbers from Gangster Granny, the Hungry Caterpillar, pirates, and characters from Dracula and Daughters.
It was also a half-term to celebrate sport, with a number of the Airlie girls representing the school at LAX Nationals, where they demonstrated grit, teamwork, and impressive athleticism. They returned to House absolutely exhausted, proudly sporting mud‑splattered kit and huge smiles. Their determination on the pitch was matched only by the camaraderie they showed one another throughout the tournament. Very well done to all of our girls for their fantastic efforts.
Our budding engineers also had a busy few weeks, with several Airlie pupils taking part in the First Tech Challenge for Robotics. Their commitment to problem‑solving, coding, and design was inspiring to hear about. The girls collaborated brilliantly, designing and producing a robot that could launch balls! Their design has progressed them from the regional to the national round. Along the way they had to troubleshoot some mechanical hiccups and refine their build with impressive focus. It’s exciting to see such passion for STEM flourishing within the House and wish them good luck for the next stage.
We also marked the start of the Fifth Form’s campaigns for next year’s leadership positions. They have all taken the application process very seriously and have run some wonderful activities for the younger girls as part of this process. There has been mocktail‑making, origami workshops, House hide‑and‑seek, study club, TruFru making, and much more. Their Hustings speeches were also brilliant: thoughtful, articulate, and full of personality. It takes courage to stand up and present yourself to the school community, and each of them did so with maturity and confidence. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the example they set for the younger years.
On the final closed weekend of term, we made our way over to LAC to support the Airlie girls in the school musical. Our very own leading ladies, Amalia, Roxy and Celeste, truly shone and delivered their roles with confidence and flair. A massive well done also goes to Natalie, who did a tremendous job as part of the musician cast. The performance was a real highlight of the last few weeks, and it was lovely to see the girls’ hard work pay off. The House loved cheering them on, and it was wonderful to see everyone come together to celebrate some of their own.
Our House outing this half‑term took us to an Escape Room, where the girls threw themselves into the challenge with enthusiasm. From deciphering clues to cracking codes, every group showed fantastic teamwork and creativity. There were moments of frantic searching, triumphant breakthroughs, and plenty of laughter along the way. Whether they escaped with minutes to spare or found themselves stumped by the final puzzle, everyone agreed it was a brilliant afternoon out.
House Shout was, as always, a highlight of the term. This year, House Airlie transformed into the Backstreet Boys, performing a perfectly harmonised and choreographed rendition of I Want It That Way. They committed to the theme and coordinated their outfits to reflect true boy‑band swagger. The girls sang their hearts out and were robbed of the title!
It’s hard to believe that all of this, and so much more, happened in just five short weeks. The girls are understandably looking forward to a long break. We wish the Fifth Form the very best of luck as they embark on a holiday filled with revision and we hope everyone gets to enjoy some well‑deserved and meaningful time with family and friends.
