Summer Term 1 – Slipping, Sliding, and Smiling Through!
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final weeks of the academic year already! The Summer Term always arrives with a flurry of activity and emotion, and this one has been no exception. Between revision breaks, memory-making, and milestone moments, Butler has been as lively as ever.
Our evening activities have been a real highlight in recent weeks, helping the girls unwind and reconnect after their academic efforts. One particularly sunny evening saw the arrival of a giant waterslide on the Butler slope – cue shrieks of laughter and lots of soggy socks! It’s fair to say no one stayed dry, but spirits were sky-high. Along with the warmer weather we’ve enjoyed the sweet charm of Ice Cream Night, with a full toppings bar, plenty of sprinkles, and lots of happy Butlers. For those needing something a little less sticky but just as satisfying, we introduced Table Tennis for exam stress busting – and it turns out Butler has some serious ping-pong pros in its midst. These fun-filled evenings have been just the tonic to balance the more studious parts of term.
Speaking of balance, it’s also been a time for big transitions. This half of term we bid a very fond farewell to Mrs Tarpey, our beloved Day Matron, who has retired after an extraordinary 14 years of care, laughter, and tireless support. Mrs Tarpey has been the calm in the storm for so many Butler girls over the years, and it’s hard to imagine our days without her warm presence and wisdom! We know she’ll be deeply missed, but we send her off with all our gratitude and love – and, we hope, plenty of tea and rest! Catherine managed to encapsulate how we all feel so beautifully: ‘Thank you for opening the door for us when we’ve forgotten our wristbands – please know that the Butler door will always be open for you too!’.
As we say goodbye, we also say a big Butler welcome to Mrs Byerley, who has joined us as our new Day Matron. She’s already bringing her own warmth and energy to the House, and the girls have been so excited to get to know her. From settling nerves before exams to lending a listening ear during busy days, Mrs Byerley has made a fantastic start – we’re thrilled to have her as part of the Butler family.
Of course, at this point in the Term, our thoughts turn especially to the UV, who are in the final stretch of their GCSE exams. You have handled this period with such resilience, maturity, and camaraderie. The whole House is behind you, cheering you on as you approach the finish line. Good luck, girls – we are so proud of you already. You’ve done the hard work, and now it’s your time to shine. The girls in the House have been busy making some well wishes for you. I hope you enjoy their messages below!
With the sun still shining and a few more weeks of memory-making ahead, there’s plenty to look forward to before we wave goodbye to the School year. Let’s make every moment count. I am looking forward to celebrating with you all at the Butler House Dinner when we return after Long Leave. Have a lovely break!
With warmest wishes
